Nostalgia often blinds us to older games faults. This is not the case here. I never played the game until it came to the 360, and loving it. The atmosphere, writing, characters, settings, art design all of it fits perfectly together. The controls work like they should, but still feel awkward with a controller for these type of games.
Keep in mind this is an adventure game game, so do not expect to be swashbuckling Assassins Creed style. You will find yourself reading text, hunting for items, and exploring the personalties of these characters, not going from stage to stage killing things because 'reasons' dictate you do so. This game is a rebirthed from an era that is lost, like the golden age of horror movies. Sure todays games are more realitic, and gorier then before, but this game not unlike the 1930's horror movies prove that you do not need that to be successful. I recommend you play it and judge it for yourself.
